Kansas Homeowners Weighing Benefits of Earthquake Insurance

Should Kansans be considering the addition of earthquake insurance to their homeowners insurance policies? The Kansas Insurance Department says that recent earthquakes in Colorado, Oklahoma and on the East Coast have made more Kansans aware of the possible need for adding the insurance to their homeowners coverage. Bob Tomlinson is the Kansas assistant Insurance Commissioner.

The Kansas Geological Survey says Kansas sits on the Nemaha (NEE-muh-hah) Ridge, a buried granite mountain range that extends from Omaha to Oklahoma City. Kansas is also positioned along the Humboldt Fault Zone on the eastern edge of the boundary of the ridge, which passes through Wamego (wah-MEE-goh) to El Dorado (ell-doh-RAY-doh).
