Kansas Delegation Supports House Tax Bill

The tax bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday had the support of all four Kansas representatives. Republican Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins called the current tax code “broken” when speaking on the House floor.

“This is a rare opportunity to enact the kind of legislation that our constituents need and deserve, to grow the economy and put more money in the pockets of hard-working Kansans,” Jenkins said.

Republican Congressman Roger Marshall, who represents western Kansas, says the legislation will create more jobs. But he does have concerns about the national debt, which is why he’s also advocating for cuts in spending.

Critics are skeptical that the GOP tax plan will grow the economy. They also say the bill largely benefits wealthy Americans and could actually raise taxes on low-income workers.
