Kansans Assisting in Storm Prep
Kansans are helping on the East Coast as Hurricane Sandy approaches. Sharon Watson is with the Kansas Adjutant General's Department. She says Kansas is sending a response team to Maryland.
“To support them in planning, operations, logistics, finance, administration. Those types of behind-the-scenes roles that really help keep the disaster response running smoothly.”
Watson says aircraft from some East Coast military bases have also been moved to Topeka to keep them out of harm’s way. She says more Kansas resources could be deployed as needed.

Forbes Field Sheltering Planes From Hurricane Sandy
Forbes Field is providing shelter for some military aircraft that would have otherwise been in the path of Hurricane Sandy. Sharon Watson is with the Kansas Adjutant General's department.
“Andrews Air Force Base moved six of its KC-135 tankers down to Topeka. That will allow those tankers to be safe and they’ll stay here depending on how long is necessary to remain out of harm’s way.”
Watson says Kansas has also sent volunteers to assist in preparations and recovery at the Maryland State Emergency Operations Center.
