K-State Band Announcer Leaves Amid Ballot Controversy

K-State Marching Band (Flickr Photo by brick1083)A Manhattan man who objected to President Obama appearing on the November ballot will no longer be the announcer for the K-State marching band. Joe Montgomery filed a complaint saying Obama should not appear on the ballot because of questions about his citizenship. Director of Bands Frank Tracz (“trace”) says Montgomery had been the announcer for around 15 years. Tracz (“trace”) says Montgomery’s connection to the band was a source of controversy.

Trace says the announcer position is a volunteer job. Montgomery withdrew his challenge to Obama’s candidacy over what he called animosity directed at him and those around him.
