Hundreds Rally in Topeka for Change in Medicaid Proposal

(Photo by Stephen Koranda)Hundreds turned out at the Kansas Statehouse to oppose a change in the way the state provides care to the developmentally disabled. A proposal from Governor Sam Brownback would hire three private contractors to manage care for people enrolled in Medicaid. Tom Laing, with the group InterHab, says the current system is working well.

Lawmakers are already planning to take up legislation addressing the needs of the developmentally disabled. Their services would be exempted from the managed care programs for one year.
