It's July, so it's hot in northeast and east central Kansas...but this week, it's expected to be hotter than normal. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories and an excessive heat warning for portions of the KPR listening area, extending through Saturday in some locations. Brandon Drake is a meteorologist with the NWS in Topeka, and explains the difference between the two kinds of alerts.

Listeners are cautioned to check on neighbors, wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, and stay hydrated through the duration of the heat advisories and warnings.

Small Differences Separate Heat Advisories, Warnings

The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories and an excessive heat warning for portions of the KPR listening area. Brandon Drake is a meteorologist with the NWS in Topeka, and says the difference between a heat advisory and a heat warning is small, but significant.

An excessive heat warning is in effect for Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties in Kansas until Saturday night at 10 o'clock.
