Discrimination Complaints Filed Against University of Kansas Professor

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ A white University of Kansas professor is on paid leave after using a racial slur during a class discussion about race. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that the university is investigating a discrimination complaint against Andrea Quenette. The assistant professor of communication studies says she was notified Friday morning that five people filed a discrimination complaint against her. She says she ``didn't intend to offend anyone.''

Wichita Bank Robbed Saturday Morning

 WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Authorities are investigating a robbery at a bank in east Wichita. KSNW-TV reports that the robbery was reported Saturday morning at a Fidelity Bank branch. Sedgwick County Dispatchers said the suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded coat and a stocking over his head.

Mayetta Woman is Victim of Fatal Stabbing

MAYETTA, Kan. (AP) _ A man has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a woman in northeast Kansas. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Potawatomi Tribal Police responded to the stabbing around 12:45 a.m. Saturday near Mayetta. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the victim was identified as 49-year-old Leann Sanchez of Mayetta.

Another Hung Jury in Retrial of Lawrence Murder Case

 

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ A retrial for a 31-year-old man charged in a Lawrence apartment killing has ended in another hung jury. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Douglas County District Judge Paula Martin declared a mistrial Friday in Dustin D. Walker's felony murder trial. Prosecutors alleged that Walker killed 39-year-old Patrick Roberts in March 2014 during a botched robbery attempt.
