Lobbyists representing the tobacco industry are urging Kansas lawmakers to reject the governor’s proposal.

Kansas lawmakers heard testimony this week on Governor Sam Brownback’s proposal to help close the state’s massive budget gap by raising tobacco taxes. But they haven’t scheduled a vote and as Andy Marso of the Kansas News Service reports, there’s plenty of opposition to the idea.
