Kansas Governor Blames Democrats for Delaying Tax Vote

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback continued Wednesday to defend sales tax hikes in the state budget and says he blames Democrats in the legislature for delaying the vote and keeping lawmakers in session for a record-breaking 113 days.

Many Republicans also voted against the tax plan, but the governor singled out Democrats. He says, in spite of the large sales tax increases, Kansas taxpayers will actually come out ahead because of the tax exemptions he pushed through the legislature in recent years. Critics disagree and say low and middle income Kansans will be paying significantly more in state taxes.
