At the U.S. Olympic Swimming trials in Omaha today (THUR), Shannon Vreeland of Overland Park qualified for the women’s 200-meter freestyle semifinal. Vreeland was an Olympic gold medalist at the London 2012 Games, but has struggled with shoulder issues in the last year. Kansas Public Radio’s Greg Echlin reports.
The 200-meter freestyle semifinal competition takes place tonight (THUR). Another area swimmer, 17-year-old Michael Andrew of Lawrence, also qualified for tonight's (THUR) men's 200-meter individual medley semifinal.
