LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The mayor of Lawrence used a government credit card for about $1,100 in personal expenses but repaid the city shortly before resigning this week. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that former Lawrence Mayor Jeremy Farmer reimbursed the city for items that included purchases at a sporting goods store after interim City Manager Diane Stoddard asked for an explanation of the charges. Farmer paid the city $1,148.85 on Tuesday, and also wrote a memo to city staff members and commissioners explaining that he used the city's credit card to pay for some personal expenses because his personal credit cards had been "compromised." Farmer resigned as mayor Wednesday, two days after resigning from his job as executive director at a food pantry.
