Foot-Deep Snow Blankets KS and Stops Airplane at KCI

Anywhere from 12 to 14 inches of snow fell across eastern Kansas Tuesday, much of it fell here on the KPR parking lot. (Photo by J. Schafer)

So just how much snow did eastern Kansas get? Jennifer Bowen (BOE-uhn), at the National Weather Service in Topeka, has been compiling snow totals for northeast Kansas.

Bowen says the the snowfall total at her office in Topeka this (WED) morning was 12.9 inches. In Kansas City, the snow was deep enough to stop airplanes. A Southwest Airlines jet arriving from Denver got stuck in a snow bank at Kansas City International Airport yesterday (TUE) evening. Officials say the plane with 55 passengers onboard hit the snow bank while taxiing to a terminal. All the passengers were placed on buses and driven to the terminal. No one was hurt.
