Excessive Heat Warning Issued for KPR Listening Area

(Map courtesy of National Weather Service Topeka office via

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning that will remain in effect until 9 pm. Heat indices are forecast to range from 110 to 115 this (FRI) afternoon and evening. The heat and humidity will make heat-related illnesses such as heat stress, heat cramps and heat stroke more likely. Meteorologists warn that extra precautions may be needed at this time, particularly if you work or spend time outside. It's important to know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Area residents are urged to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing when possible and to drink plenty of water.  The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends that those working outside schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather, when vehicle interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
