But it appears there would be no legal or financial consequences if they test positive for drug use. Jeff Russell is director of Legislative Administrative Services and will oversee the drug testing program. Russell says the results of the tests will be confidential:
The drug testing requirement for lawmakers was added to a bill that requires the tests for some people receiving cash assistance from the state. However, if a welfare recipient fails a test, there are specific consequences: their benefits will suspended unless they complete a drug treatment program.
