Debate Over Evolution Looming for KS Board of Education

There could be a debate over evolution coming down the line for the Kansas Board of Education. Kansas is one of 26 states helping to develop new science education standards. Board member Ken Willard, from Hutchinson, says he supports much of the work on the new standards. But Willard has said he has concerns that the report embraces evolution. At a Board of Education meeting, Willard said he hopes the issue will be addressed.

Board chairman David Dennis said he'd like to vote on the science standards before the end of the year, but it's not clear if a final draft of the standards could be ready by then.
