Deadline Passes for Lawmakers to Reject Medicaid Reorganization Plan

Brownback speaking to reporters last month. (Photo by Stephen Koranda)Governor Sam Brownback says his plan to overhaul Medicaid is underway, since a deadline for lawmakers to reject the order has passed. The order will shuffle the state agencies that oversee Medicaid. The administration also plans to hire private contractors to run a managed care program for Medicaid recipients. The goal is to slow the growth in Medicaid costs. Brownback says the proposal won’t hurt patient care.

The administration will choose three contractors this summer.  Some lawmakers want to create an oversight committee to monitor the transition.
