Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos (WAN MAHN-well SAHN-tos) will speak in Lawrence today (MON) on the University of Kansas Campus. Santos is a graduate of KU, and Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little calls him one of the school’s most distinguished graduates. KPR’s Stephen Koranda has more on the event.

Santos graduated from KU in 1973 with degrees in economics and business. During this return trip, he’ll meet with students and make a public presentation. He’ll also be awarded the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award, which is the highest honor given by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Santos has served in various posts in Colombia’s government before he was elected president in 2010. Santos is also a former journalist and author. His speech starts at 2:30 at the Dole Institute of Politics on the KU campus.
