Children's Advocate: Brownback Looking to Trade Future Tobacco Settlement Money for Immediate Cash

A lobbist and children's advocate claims Kansas officials are considering selling future payments from a tobacco lawsuit settlement in exchange for immediate cash to shore up the state budget.

The head of a nonprofit organization that advocates for children is blowing the whistle on plans to raise some quick cash for the state treasury by selling the state’s tobacco settlement. State officials say no deal has been struck. More from Jim McLean, of the KHI News Service.
