Casino Issues Return to KS Legislature

The state of Kansas will have a new governor and a new legislature, but an old issue...gambling...will be coming back up for debate. Democratic Representative Bob Grant of Cherokee is pitching a bill which he hopes will help re-open the state's shuttered horse and dog tracks. Those facilities are allowed to have slot machines under current law, but Grant and the track owners say the state's tax rates are too high.

The bill faces an uphill battle in the Legislature. A similar measure was considered last year, but it did not move forward.
