Candidates for Kansas Legislature Rush to Beat Filing Cutoff

Secretary of State Kris Kobach speaks to reporters after closing the filing period. (Photo by Stephen Koranda)Dozens of candidates flooded the secretary of state’s office in Topeka to beat a deadline to file for the fall election. The swarm was caused by the late decision in the redistricting process. Federal judges didn’t release the redistricting maps until late Thursday night. As KPR’s Stephen Koranda tells us, that left candidates only a few days to file to run for office.
