Candidates Divided on Wind Energy Tax Credits

(Flickr Photo by Brent Danley)

The two candidates running for a 2nd District congressional seat are sharply divided on the issue of tax credits to help promote wind energy. Republican Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins says she's not opposed to wind development, but believes the credits should be eliminated. She says government has already helped give wind energy a start through the tax credits.

Her challenger is Democrat Tobias Schlingensiepen, who would like to keep the credit. He says investing in infrastructure and energy are ways to speed economic growth in Kansas.

The wind energy tax credit is set to expire at the end of this year. The two spoke last (THUR) night during a debate at the Dole Institute of Politics on the University of Kansas campus. We’ll have more from the debate later this hour.
