Burning Down the Barn; Summer Drought Spawns Wildfires

Wildfires are a perennial problem in farm and ranch country. That's especially true during a drought, when land and vegetation are tinder-dry. This year, wildfires have flared-up in fields across the state -- including a pasture owned by Commentator Rex Buchanan.

Commentator Rex Buchanan is the Interim Director of the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas... and a frequent contributor to Kansas Public Radio.

(Production assistance for this commentary comes from KPR News Intern Dana McCoy.)
