Kansas Budget Cuts Could Have Severe Impact on State Work Force

If the Kansas House fails to pass a measure to bridge the state’s massive budget deficit, the state workforce could be reduced by more than 7,000 workers. The state’s budget office says Governor Sam Brownback would make across the board cuts of more than 6 percent next month if a $400 million budget gap is not filled.  Rebecca Proctor of the Kansas Organization of State Employees says the impact on state workers will be severe.

Proctor says many state facilities already face staff shortages and the cuts would mean vacancies would not be filled.
