Earlier this month, Boeing announced plans to end its operations in Wichita, bringing its 80-year presence in Kansas to a close. The company's decision to leave Wichita will hurt the economy, but as Commentator Gwyn Mellinger points out... it also provides a lesson in how free-market economics can be a double-edged sword.

Commentator Gwyn Mellinger is Chair of the Mass Media Department at Baker University in Baldwin City. She also writes a column for the Topeka Capital-Journal and for Insight Kansas.
