A Kansas Senate committee has advanced a bill that would update the information provided to a woman seeking an abortion. The bill also specifies that the information must be printed in 12-point, Times New Roman font so it’s legible. It would add additional details about a physician’s credentials, insurance and any disciplinary actions against them.
Kathy Ostrowski, with the group Kansans for Life, says the change will give women more information about abortion providers.
“It has to do with what a woman has a right to look at and consider when she’s making an abortion decision. There’s no burden, it would take about 15 minutes for the three businesses to update their forms,” says Ostrowski.
Planned Parenthood’s Elise Higgins says anyone seeking an abortion in Kansas already receives detailed information. She says lawmakers should be spending their time on tax and budget issues.
“The last thing Kansans want the Legislature to focus on is the font size and type that abortion providers use in forms provided to patients,” says Higgins.
The legislation will now go before the full Senate for consideration.
