Kansas officials say they will appeal a judge’s decision this week in a closely-watched case involving the state’s controversial voter registration rules.  But officials with the American Civil Liberties Union are expressing confidence their case against Kansas will prevail. This week, a judge put a hold on the state’s rule that requires voters registering at the DMV to show proof of citizenship. Micah Kubic with the ACLU of Kansas says federal law is intended to make voter registration easier.

Kubic says thousands of potential Kansas voters have been disenfranchised by this rule.  State officials have until the end of the month to appeal the judge's ruling.

ACLU Senses Victory in Voter Registration Lawsuit

The state of Kansas will appeal this week's decision by a federal judge in a closely-watched case involving voter registration rules. But officials with the American Civil Liberties Union are expressing confidence their case against the state will prevail. This week, a judge put a hold on the Kansas law that requires voters who register at the DMV to show proof of citizenship. Micah Kubic with the ACLU of Kansas says the state’s claims that some voters are falsely registering or double-voting is unconvincing.

State officials have until the end of the month to appeal the judge's ruling.
