Our latest Cinema a Go-Go creeps into Liberty Hall with a pair of classic zombie thrillers — Zombies of Mora Tau and Zombies on Broadway.
Quickie king Sam Katzman’s Zombies of Mora Tau is a game attempt to imitate what Roger Corman was doing so well over at American-International. The story takes place on the coast of Africa, where zombies jealously guard an ancient jewel-encrusted African Idol.
Zombies on Broadway is a 1945 American horror comedy film starring RKO's imitation Abbott and Costello - Alan Carney and Wally Brown - as a pair of men who are tasked with finding a real zombie for a zombie-themed nightclub. Sheldon Leonard, as a former mobster turned nightclub owner, and Bela Lugosi, as the mad scientist who created the zombies, also appear.
Join us at Liberty Hall (link is external) in downtown Lawrence, Friday, June 10. Tickets $8, available at the doors, which open at 6:30 p.m. And, of course, we’ll be giving away zombie-related stuff from the Retro Cocktail Hour prize closet at intermission
