Friday Night $5 Admission Gets You First Dibs at the Sale!
(Topeka, KS) If you are seeking the ultimate novel experience, you can find it at the Friends Book Sale September 18, 19 and 20, 2015, at the Ag Hall at the Kansas Expocentre. In addition to fiction offerings, be sure to browse the non-fiction, biography and memoir tables. This sale has every genre available plus many specialty items.
Books are priced at $1 or $2. A premium section (special edition, signed by author or like-new books) offers more value, with prices from $3 to $20.
Friday Night (6–9pm), a $5 admission fee gets you in the door. Members of Friends of the Library will get in free, and you can buy a membership at the door for $20. Be the first to pick up classic and the newest books, vintage records and popular DVDs and CDs.
Free admission days are Saturday (9am-5pm) and Sunday (10am-5pm). The bargains get better as the selection becomes picked-over, so it’s important to keep coming back. Sunday is a Bag Day, which means all the books that you can fit into a grocery sack (provided) are yours for $5/bag. Except for Sunday, bring your own boxes, totes, luggage on wheels or whatever you want to take your books home in. Monday Sept. 21 (7am – 12:00 noon), anything left is FREE.
Friends receive book donations from the public throughout the year. Volunteers carefully sort and prepare books and other donated items. The storage units used by the Friends receive regular pest control maintenance so quality is ensured.
In 2014, the Friends of the Library were able to contribute $100,000 to the library’s programs, services and collections last year as a result of efforts of member volunteers that collect, sort and sell books in their store and online, bag sales, half-price days and the annual book sale.
For more information, visit the Friends of the Library on the library's digital branch.
Pre-event photo opportunity: Between 3:30–4:30 pm, Thursday, Sept. 17 members of local Jr. ROTC will unpack boxes of books. This group of enthusiastic volunteers will work shoulder to shoulder with Friends volunteers to prepare more than 100,000 items for sale. Be sure to catch these kids in action; they truly are the muscles of the operation. Stop by Ag Hall Sept. 17, and ask for Warren Taylor, Book Sale chair.
