The secret history of the attack on the USS Liberty: a Survivor Speaks

Description: Citizens for Justice in the Middle East will host an event commemorating the 50th anniversary of an attack during Israel’s Six Day War on the USS Liberty, a US naval intelligence ship sailing in international waters. The ship was strafed by Israeli jets, bombed with napalm and then attacked by Israeli torpedo boats. Thirty-four Americans died. Retired Staff Sergeant Bryce Lockwood, one of 172 survivors of the attack, will speak at the June 22 event. Although Israel claimed the US ship had been mistaken for an Egyptian ship, survivors believed the attack was intentional. Recent investigations have concluded that there is “compelling evidence that Israel’s attack was a deliberate attempt to destroy an American ship and kill her entire crew.” Come hear the only Marine survivor of the attack recall his experience that day, explore questions as to why Israel attacked an unarmed naval intelligence ship, why the US Navy first launched and then recalled fighter bombers sent to defend the USS Liberty, why the US has continually failed to pursue an investigation of the attack and what has been learned in recent years by the declassification of government documents. The event takes place Thursday June 22 at 7 pm at the VFW Post located at 9550 Pflumm Road in Lenexa. Submitted by: Jamie Jackson Ctizens for Justice in the Middle East
