BarnFest '16

Description: The Kansas Barn Alliance will be hosting “BarnFest ‘16” on August 25, 26 & 27 at “The Barn at Kill Creek Farm” at De Soto, KS in Johnson County. Barn owners and supporters throughout the state are encouraged to attend and learn about methods of barn maintenance and restoration. New this year, is a pre-BarnFest workshop on basic National Register information and detailed information on the “Preliminary Site Information Questionnaire”(PSIQ). This questionnaire is intended to provide preliminary information to assist in evaluating a property's eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places and/or the Register of Historic Kansas Places. It will be led by staff of the Historical Resources Division of the Kansas State Historical Society. Pre-registration is required and a small fee will be charged to cover lunch. See details on the BarnFest Registration form. The first day of BarnFest’16, Friday, August 26, will be a full day of presentations on building, restoring and maintaining timber frame barns. Speakers will include barn owners, architects and contractors. There will also be a session on historic farm windmills. This will be followed by an evening meal and entertainment. Saturday, August 27 will be a day of touring area barns in an air conditioned bus. Those attending will be touring the Turner Barn at Gardner, Taylor Barn in Lawrence, Somers Barn at Tonganoxie and the Fairchild/Knox Barn in Tonganoxie. Participants may choose to attend any or all days of BarnFest ’16. Registration and additional information is online at KansasBarnAlliance.Org Register prior to August 12 to save on registration.
