Description: In the 1980's, Lawrence became a city of peace as residents initiated a campaign to ease tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States and end the Cold War. Now you can experience this exciting local history at the opening celebration of our new exhibit, "Breaking the Ice: Lawrence, the Soviet Union, and Peace." This Final Friday, come hear insights into these events from key people involved and KU historians of the Cold War, view the exhibit, and enjoy refreshments! Do you remember Lawrence peace efforts during the Cold War? Join us on Final Friday and share your own stories! SCHEDULE 5:00: Doors open for refreshments and viewing the exhibit 5:30-6:30: Panel discussion with Bob Swan, David Longhurst, and others involved in Lawrence peace meetings 6:30-7:30: Talk by Dr. Erik R.
