African American History at the Watkins

Description: Visitors to Final Friday at the Watkins from 5-8 PM will learn fascinating stories of struggle and hope as we feature several exhibits on local African American history. From the black soldiers who braved bullets and discrimination in World War I, to local business owners and students who carved out a life for themselves at the very lowest point in national race relations, these exhibits provide insights into the African American experience. Renowned local quilter Marla Jackson will also be present at 6 p.m. to chat with visitors about the new Watkins show of African American history quilts. Refreshments available.
