Description: Hello, The Children’s Tumor Foundation is excited to announce that the Kansas City NF Walk will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017. I am reaching out with the hope that you can support this walk and contribute to its success. Your support will help fund critical research for neurofibromatosis (NF). NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. This disorder can lead to blindness, bone abnormalities, cancer, deafness, disfigurement, learning disabilities, and excruciating and disabling pain. NF affects one in every 3,000 people, more than cystic fibrosis, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and Huntington’s disease combined. NF research is also shedding new light on several forms of cancer, brain tumors, bone abnormalities, and learning disabilities, ultimately benefiting the broader community. The Children’s Tumor Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that prides itself on its 4-Star Charity Navigator rating, spending 82% of its revenue on research and programs. We have also received accreditation from the Better Business Bureau as part of the Wise Giving Alliance.Since its inception in 1978, the Foundation has grown into the largest non-government funder of neurofibromatosis (NF) research in the world. Our mission is to drive research, expand knowledge and advance care for the NF community. In addition to being a driving force behind NF research, the Children’s Tumor Foundation also supports the NF Clinic Network, which sees over 10,000 patients in 50 clinics throughout the United States. The Children's Tumor Foundation's NF Walk Program is a fundraising initiative to support NF research, raise awareness and provide support for individuals with NF and their families. Our NF Walks are a fun and engaging way to support those living with NF. They are open to all ages, engage entire communities, include not only walks, but also 5ks and kids fun runs, and offer friendship and hope for those living with NF. NF Walks are family and community events, attracting motivated individuals from all walks of life. Our events are seeking tremendous growth, and forming partnerships will result in a win/win, benefiting your business as well as a worthy cause. In 2017 we plan to raise $2 million through NF Walks across the United States. We are offering sponsorships at various levels in an effort to involve as many businesses as possible. In return, we offer benefits at each level. Please review the attached sponsorship levels to determine which is most appropriate for your organization. I am happy to discuss these opportunities with you personally. If you are able to sponsor the Kansas City NF Walk, or help in any way, please contact me at your earliest convenience to coordinate further. We hope you will join us in supporting our Kansas City NF Walk. Thank you for your time and consideration. Kansas Public Radio and Maceli’s are proud to present their first Songwriters Showcase an evening of music featuring local musicians Mr. and Mrs. Dodge, Heidi Gluck, and Inside Baseball. The show, sponsored by Briggs Subaru, is on Saturday, September 23, at Maceli’s (1031 New Hampshire St.) in Lawrence; doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door or $10.50 in advance at macelis.com.

Arthur Dodge of Lawrence band Arthur Dodge and the Horsefeathers and his wife, Meg Hereford, (owner of the popular Ladybird Café in Lawrence) are teaming up for a rare duo performance. Dodge’s band performs indie ballads and rock and country tunes around the area and is preparing to release their fourth album this year.

Indie folk singer-songwriter Heidi Lynne Gluck’s confessional lyrics and expressive arrangements can be heard on her two albums: her debut EP “The Only Girl in the Room” and her self-produced album “Pony Show.” In addition to composing and producing, Gluck is a prominent side player and session musician featured on over 30 albums on background vocals, bass, guitar, piano, keys, accordion and lap steel.

Inside-Baseball is a brand-new project for Lawrence singer-songwriter John LaMonica. His “Missouri St. Sessions” release features autobiographical story-songs and can be found on his SoundCloud page. Look for his first full album, “Outliers,” to come out this fall.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Kansas Public Radio, which sustained a $200,000 budget cut this fiscal year. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the event.
