Description: Jon Stickley Trio combines Jon Stickley’s rapid-fire flatpicking guitar with the sultry and wild, yet refined, melodies of Lyndsay Pruett on violin set over the deep groove of Patrick Armitage on drums. The three have fused their collective styles into a repertoire of exciting and innovative original music along with some captivating covers. Submitted by: Kim McDowell Great Plains Theatre

Kansas City Symphony Classical Series: Chopin, Brahms and Wagner

Description: Asher Fisch, guest conductor George Li, piano CHOPIN Piano Concerto No. 1 BRAHMS Variations on a Theme by Haydn WAGNER Suite from Die Meistersinger Chopin’s compositions capture the sensitivity and self-expression of the Romantic era while upholding a sense of classic purity. His First Piano Concerto highlights the soloist’s elegant and virtuosic technique, all capped by a lively Polish folk dance. Composed three years before his First Symphony, Brahms’ glowing Haydn Variations is an early work of an orchestral master. These Kansas City Symphony concerts close with a jubilant jaunt from Wagner’s comic opera, The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, which is bursting with melody and high spirits from first note to last. Tickets start at $25. Submitted by: Beth Buchanan Kansas City Symphony
