Meet Our New Underwriters May 2016

US Bank is in the “business of making possible happen,” helping customers navigate financial milestones—from first paycheck to first day of retirement; by helping small businesses convert back-of-the-envelope drawings into new businesses; by helping merchants direct commerce efficiently, effectively, conveniently and securely; by being there for families when they walk into their neighborhood branch or connect with us through their mobile devices; and by helping large commercial enterprises manage their daily activities and expand when new opportunities present themselves. KPR’s Retro Cocktail Hour turns 20, almost old enough to drink a martini

The Underground Martini Bunker is real and in use every Saturday night on the "Retro Cocktail Hour."

By Dave Sparks / KPR Volunteer

“At the end of the first show, I remember thinking ‘Wow, that seemed like a lot of fun. Let’s see what happens!” Now, 20 years and 700-plus episodes later, Darrell Brogdon’s memory of hosting the first Retro Cocktail Hour on Kansas Public Radio is just as accurate—with a few bullet points.

Proposal Threatens Sex Education in Kansas
Sex education is once again a hot topic in the Kansas Legislature. In February, the Kansas House Education Committee passed an "opt-in" bill that requires parents to provide written consent before their children are allowed to participate in sex education courses. Commentator John Richard Schrock believes this bill takes power away from local school boards and could deny Kansas students an important part of their education.

Meet Feloniz Lovato-Winston, KPR’s New Development Director

Feloniz Lovato-Winston, right, and Phil Wilke, KPR Media Manager, greeted customers at a Lawrence Chamber of Commerce mixer.

Late last year, Feloniz Lovato-Winston moved her office from one side of the building to the other. She had been Development Director of Audio-Reader, the radio-reading service for the blind and visually impaired and an agency affiliated with KPR. In October, she took over as Development Director at KPR. Since then, she’s been meeting with KPR donors, underwriters, friends and supporters. We asked her a few questions about how she’s settling in.
