Local Photographer Jean Hutchison Is Latest KPaRtist

This month KPR is featuring framed photos by Ottawa photographer Jean Hutchison in the Kansas Public Radio conference room.

Jean found her passion for photography in the landscapes and scenes that she finds in nature. She is particularly fond of exploring the back roads of the Flint Hills, capturing the big skies and grassy vistas of Kansas.

Update from Sheri Hamilton, former Director of Development

If you have volunteered for one of our pledge drives, attended a KPR event, chances are you know Sheri Hamilton, who worked at KPR for eighteen years. Sheri is now at the University of Kansas Endowment Association, doing development work for the Dole Institute of Politics, but she is still a big part of the Kansas Public Radio family. We asked her to put together a brief history of her time at the station, as well as an update on her current position.

Sheri Hamilton, center, shown here with Kaye McIntyre and J. Schafer, worked at KPR for 18 years before accepting a position at KU Endowment in 2015.

KPR Picks Up Seven Awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters

Kansas Public Radio earned seven individual awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) this year. KPR earned honors in the news, commentary, programming and website categories. The station captured one First Place award, three Second Place awards and three Honorable Mentions in the statewide contest. KPR had been the KAB's reigning Station of the Year since August of 2016, but did not earn the top title this year. Since the award was first created in 1996, KPR has won the Station of the Year award 16 times, more than any other radio or TV station in the state.

Behind the scenes during KPR's record spring membership drive

News Director J. Schafer loves "pitching" with former Kansas lawmaker Paul Davis.

When you call in to pledge to KPR, the phone volunteers always ask, "Do you have any comments for the staff?" Read on to see what our listeners and supporters say about us. Thanks to everyone who helped make the membership drive so successful. We hope to maintain this great momentum in the coming fiscal year as we work to absorb budget cuts while continuing to provide the same high-quality programming that inspired so many listeners to call in and pledge.

“So impressed with the news! Both sides.”
