Q: Each year this south-central Kansas town holds “The Kansas Wheat Festival.” Where can you go for this year’s 114th edition of the Kansas Wheat Festival? (Not to be confused with the “After Harvest Festival” held in Ellinwood each year.)

KansasWheatFest2014The Kansas Wheat Festival is July 9-13, 2014, in Wellington, Kan., county seat of Sumner, which boasts the title of Wheat Capital of the World!!

The Wheat Festival began in 1900 as the Sumner County Jubilee and Wheat Carnival to celebrate a record breaking wheat crop. Today, Wellington still claims the title of “Wheat Capital of the World!” This festival has continued in Wellington for the past 113 years and is now the State’s official post-harvest celebration.

The Kansas Wheat Festival begins Wednesday, July 9, with five days of fun and celebration running through Sunday, July 13.
