KPaRtist - Mary Anne King

The latest in featured KPaRtists is Mary Anne King, a former junior high art teacher who has developed a keen eye for naturalistic painting.

"I am primarily a naturalistic painter; however, I appreciate abstract art, and I believe that successful realistic painting must contain good abstract qualities. The color field painters such as Mark Rothko have much to teach about painting a field of wheat.

As long as I can remember my attention has been focused on what I see. The human figure - faces, in particular - was something I observed with interest early on, as well as shapes and lines in nature and how they relate to each other...trees, grasses, sky, clouds and the effect of light on everything."

Her work is on display in the KPR Gallery through the end of June.
