The latest in featured KPaRtists is Emily Markoulatos, a Lawrence-based artist who creates art as often as possible. She challenges herself to make paintings that communicate emotion to the viewer.
She believes visual art is an important form of communication which goes beyond what can be described through words alone. Emily uses vivid colors, in her abstract canvases and creates texture with the use of different tools, including pallet knives and oil bars. In her wood pieces she uses a wood burner to create a subtle texture. These works are often representative of the beautiful Kansas landscape.
Emily graduated with a BFA from Iowa State University. She sells her paintings through her website and many art exhibits, which include Final Fridays and the Lawrence art walk, as well as private shows. Emily donates annually to the Lawrence Arts Center’s art auction.
Her work is on display in the KPR Gallery through the end of August. Like her work? Check out more on her website or email Emily for more information.
