Famous Kansans - May 2, 2014

Q: The Kansas Sampler Festival gets underway this weekend in Wamego. The Sampler Fest is designed to give the public a sample of what there is to see and do in Kansas. There’s plenty to see and do in Wamego itself. You can tour the OZ Museum – AND, you can see the boyhood home of this man. Name him!

Walter Percy Chrysler was born on April 2, 1875, in Wamego. He grew up in Ellis, Kan., but today you can see his early boyhood home in Wamego. Chrysler began his career as a machinist and a railroad mechanic but went on to start the Chrysler Motor Corporation. He’s also responsible for the design and construction of the Chrysler Building, one of the most iconic skyscrapers in the New York City skyline. You’re welcome, New York. : - )
